Event Alert! We Keep Us Safe

A day of events organised by the Transformative Justice Collective this weekend!

Altering States is a secondary newsletter that I run within We, The Citizens, focused on drugs and drug policy. It'll always be free. When you subscribe, you can choose either We, The Citizens or Altering States, or, better still, both!

I'm not in Singapore right now, but am sending out an issue of Altering States to amplify the Transformative Justice Collective's events this weekend, as part of Support. Don't Punish, an international campaign for drug policies that are health-based and respect human rights.

It'll be a day of events with three sessions: a harm reduction workshop, a storytelling session, and the launch of a handbook on navigating police investigations. The full details are below, and tickets are available via Eventbrite:

On Sunday, 28 June, join TJC at Pearl’s Hill Terrace as part of the international Support. Don’t Punish campaign.

The Transformative Justice Collective is organising We Keep Us Safe, a day of activities at Pearl’s Hill Terrace, where we build knowledge, skills, and experience in keeping each other safe from state and societal violence in its different forms.

2:15pm–4:30pm | Support. Don’t Punish: A Harm Reduction Workshop

Venue: Stranger Conversations
This workshop will explore whether the PAP government’s brutal drug policies really do what they claim to, and what better alternatives we can imagine to keep our communities safer from the harms of drug use.

5pm–6pm | Hooked: Stories The Government Doesn’t Want You To Hear

Venue: Kult Yard
A storytelling session where five storytellers will share personal journeys of how punishment has derailed and disrupted their lives, and, on the flipside, how peer and community support have helped them survive.

7pm–9pm | Launch of No Comment: Your Right to Resist the Police

Venue: Kult Yard
No Comment: Your Right to Resist the Police is a handbook that serves as a citizen’s practical guide to navigating police investigations, raids, stop-and-search encounters, and standing your ground in resistance to police overreach and legal sanctions. It provides helpful tips on organising comrade support, legal aid, crowdfunding for fines, and other forms of solidarity we can extend to each other. This handbook is a sobering confrontation with the overwhelming state and police powers under Singapore’s authoritarian regime, and the limited rights citizens have—but ends on a hopeful note of how, when we are organised, we can withstand and overcome state persecution.
